The AfroLatine Superfriends Playwriting Hour is an incredible opportunity to learn from AfroLatine-led playwrights and theatremakers from all corners of the United States. With a wealth of experience, they will share their writing practices, experiences, and insightful anecdotes on the process, inspiration, and practices of dramatic writing.

Each week, a different playwright will bring their unique perspective on how to write dramatic texts. They will offer valuable tips and prompts based on their social consciousness, approaches to theatrical style and form, and strategies to effectively communicate with their intended audiences. This series is designed for aspiring writers, students of dramatic writing, or anyone interested in creating thoughtful, visceral, and unique blueprints for performance, whether it’s for the stage, screen, or any other medium. Christin Eve Cato is a playwright, dramaturg, and performing artist from the Bronx. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Indiana University and completed her BA in Political Science and Philosophy at Fordham University. Cato is also a graduate of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts. She is affiliated with NYC theater companies, Pregones/PRTT (ensemble member & former Resident Dramaturg), INTAR Theatre (UNIT 52 ensemble member), and the Latinx Playwrights Circle. She is also a playwright in the WP Theater 2022-2024 Pipeline Lab. Cato’s artistic style is expressed through Caribbean culture and the Afro-Latinx diaspora, honoring her Puerto Rican and Jamaican roots. Recent productions include Sancocho (Visión Latino Theater Company / Midwest Premiere- 5th Annual Destinos International Festival / Chicago) and NYC Off-Broadway include, The Good Cop (DUAF 2022); and an audio play journey, The Mayor of Hell’s Kitchen Presents: A Time Traveling Journey Through NYC’s Wild West (The Parsnip Ship & Playwrights Horizons/ NYC). Publication/Contributor credits include: We Are Not Neutral (Amazon Books) and, Latinx Actor Training (Routledge). Upcoming productions: SANCOCHO at the WP Theatre, co-produced by the Latinx Playwrights Circle and The Sol Project (March 2023) and THE DIAMOND, produced by The People’s Theatre Project at Pregones Theatre (April 2023) .
